'I'm A Stranger Here' is our version of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee's evocative Blues classic. The track was included on our recent album release, 'Let 'Er Roll!' (2023) with a semi-acoustic treatment and featuring our long time friend, Irish Blues singer Bree Harris on second vocal. We have remixed it into more of a vocal duet, with both singers phrasing around each other and singing in unison. It is the culmination of many years of these two Irish Blues singers jamming together at their respective gigs, and the shared warmth and musical intimacy shines through. Sonny and Brownie's song perfectly articulates the sense of loss, alienation and disconnection, so often felt in today's society. The message that the song delivers is as pertinent now as it was in the days of aimlessly riding the freight train box cars from place to place. During the last three years The Mary Stokes Band have released two successful albums with a new live album with full brass section due shortly. This reimagining of 'I'm A Stranger Here' breathes new life into Mary's stunning version of this powerful song.
